Sport and recreation noise

The right match between sound and environment

A sports or recreational ground – such as a padel court – in a residential area can cause noise nuisance to local residents. LBP|SIGHT advises on sound, both for the construction of new locations in residential areas and for housing construction near sports and recreational sites.

CALCULATIONS AND LEGISLATION

LBP|SIGHT performs calculations of sport and recreation noise for, among others, housing developers and new locations, and advises on the applicable laws and regulations. Until 2023, this is done according to the Spatial Planning Act (‘Wet ruimtelijke ordening’ or Wro) and/or the Activities Decree, depending on the destination of the location. As of January 1, 2024, the Environmental Act (‘Omgevingswet’) will come into effect and will be tested against the rules included in the municipalities’ environmental plan.

ADVICE ON PADEL NOISE

Noise nuisance from padel courts is a well-known issue. The sport was often compared to tennis in terms of legislation, but causes more noise nuisance and disturbance. Therefore, in January 2023, the new ‘Handreiking Padel en Geluid’ was introduced, clarifying the assessment framework and reaching a consensus on the source power of padel players. At LBP|SIGHT, you are at the right place for (custom) advice on padel noise.
