Citizen participation

Pay attention to everyone involved

Private initiators who want to add a function to an area are dealing with an increasingly vocal society. People are critical of developments in their own environment. Therefore, it is wise to consider the interests of stakeholders – such as local citizens – in your plans. This is often also a requirement set by the municipal council and is part of the decision-making process under the Environmental Planning Act (‘Omgevingswet‘).

A SUCCESSFUL PARTICIPATION PROCESS

The form of participation is flexible, but it is important to organise it well. It may be wise to give stakeholders the opportunity to provide input on important themes or to involve a working group of local residents in thinking about a design for a project or area. Such a process requires substantive, strong procedural expertise and good communication. We help in mapping out interests, providing feedback on plans, and coordinating stakeholder input.
